Fleeing Domestic Violence

Maya arrived at Beit Yossi (aged 5) carrying trauma no child should know. Her family had fled to a women’s shelter three times due to extreme violence at home, and their flat was once set on fire while the children were inside.

The chaos left Maya angry, fearful, and unable to control her emotions. She was involved in daily fights, lashed out at staff, and at school her teacher had already labelled her as “a problem”.

Myisrael’s partner charity, Beit Yossi, saw the child behind the chaos.

With a tailored therapeutic plan funded by Myisrael — daily emotional support, animal-assisted therapy, art therapy, remedial teaching, and joint work with her mother — Aman slowly began to heal.

She also took part in self-defence sessions, which became a powerful tool for rebuilding her confidence and sense of control.

Progress wasn’t quick, but it was real. The violent outbursts faded. Learning gaps narrowed. Trust grew.

Maya’s mother now speaks of a transformed child:

“She listens, she helps, she takes responsibility — and she finally knows her own strength.”

Today, Maya is calmer, kinder, and able to express her feelings with dignity. The little girl who arrived in survival mode now walks with confidence — proof of what steady, compassionate support can unlock.
