One of our amazing causes

IMAGINE

Empowering people with special needs through inclusive music programmes that build confidence, life skills and meaningful social connections.

How does Imagine use music to uplift and inspire children with special needs?

Children, youth and young adults with special needs and physical disabilities often struggle with social isolation, low self-confidence and difficulty finding frameworks where they truly feel included. For those living with autism, ADHD, behavioural challenges, sensory and learning difficulties, or physical challenges, opportunities to express themselves, develop independence and build meaningful friendships can be limited.

Imagine uses the power of music to change that reality. Through innovative and inclusive after-school programmes, children, teens and young adults of different ages and abilities come together to form bands, learn instruments, develop life skills and perform in community centres, old-age homes and public events. With more than 70 groups operating across Israel, Imagine creates positive, empowering spaces where participants are encouraged to focus on their strengths rather than their challenges. Their programmes consistently help participants improve their confidence, communication, teamwork and emotional wellbeing, while giving them a genuine sense of belonging, achievement and community.

Since October 7th, the organisation has focused much of its work in southern and northern Israel, with the goal of providing vulnerable communities with a sense of refuge, emotional support and empowerment during an especially difficult period. Through music, connection and shared creativity, Imagine offers participants a safe and supportive environment where they can rebuild confidence, resilience and hope.

In addition, the organisation works extensively with elderly people, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness, strengthen personal resilience and preserve cognitive abilities through meaningful musical, social and community-based activities.

“I am so grateful for the change I see in Levi. The weekly activity at Imagine has impacted him in such a positive way and it’s the best part of his week.”

Every story matters

MEET OMER

Omer has autism and studies in a special education class in Netanya. He has been with Imagine for the past 5 years. He started as a shy and introverted teenager who joined the afternoon programme because he wanted to play the guitar. It took him a while to open up within the group but by the end of the first year, he performed as a lead vocal and guitar in the end of year show and had made good friends.

His teacher was very excited by his progress  and convinced the head of his school to bring Imagine to the whole class. Imagine worked with Omer’s class for two years, during which time they performed for the school, performed for audiences outside the school and even performed in the Knesset. Omer was seen by his fellow students as a kind of ‘rock star’! And it gave him the confidence to stand and then be chosen for the school’s student council for the first time.

His parents have seen a huge transformation in Omer’s outlook and self-belief since being part of Imagine and are thrilled that he is now so eager to embrace new experiences and challenges.
